cthulu was not ''the '' great old one. it;'s been a long time since i delved into lovecrftian fiction but all of lovecrafts gods divided into two camps the elder gods and the great old ones . i can't remember how it went but one side hated humanity and the other side really hated humanity . as i recall the name for the guy in the movie was taken directly from lovecraft's writings ; if not it is a close dirivative ; excuse my spelling i never said it didn't suck , great video once again you managed to hold my attention guys . i promise to watch two and three at some point down the road . now if you'll excuse me i'm going to go make some tea

Lovecraft didn't hold anything as canon though and you'll see the names used fairly haphazardly depending on author and tale and you'll see them referred to as the outer gods as well. But yea, Cthulhu wasn't the most powerful in the mythos just the most popular.

i knew you'd refine things for me wulf. my fubar attention span has me stalled in the middle of fascinating lovecraft biographyt right now . it says h.p.lovecraft didn't even refer to his writings as the cthulu mythos . it says he called it instead ''yogi sothery''

I'm not positive but I think it might have been August Derlith that first started in with the Mythos stuff. He tried to bring some continuity to it all. Personally I think the chaotic nature of the genre was better served by Lovecraft's "open source" approach but Derlith's huge contribution still influences writers today.

yup ;it was derith . he really took theb lovecraft legacy and ran with it after h.p, s death . it's tempting to think of him as hanger on but if you look closely he had quite a careerb of his own in and out of the genre . i read the ''bats belfry '' it was good the end fell apart logically for me though ; unless there was something set upm in the beginning that i missed
