I think there's an easy way to tell if you'll enjoy this movie. If you like the previous collaborations of the group of guys like, Seth Rogan, Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and Craig Robinson then this one probably won't disappoint. If the only name you recognized that I mention is Seth Rogan, this might not be for you.
This is Rogan's directorial debut. He has however written several movies including, Superbad, Pinapple Express and the Watch. If you loved the Pineapple Express this movie is almost on that level. Seth Rogan did a great job in his directorial debut in my opinion. If you're a fan of Rogan and his click of friends, I don't see how you won't love This is the End. It gets wild and unrealistic but it's all in good fun. I watched it and Man of Steel in the same weekend and let me tell you that This is the End has more realistic and connect-able characters in it than that big budget sh!+ sandwich I had to eat while setting through Man of Steel. There's great "Rogan" comedy throughout this film with the buddy atmosphere you want in a movie with a cast of characters like this.
This movie has a long list of cameo's by the varying Rogan movie click. The names mentioned above as well as James Franco and Jason Segel from the Freaks & Geeks days. Jay Bruchel, Paul Rudd, Mindy Kaling, David Krumholtz and many, many more people have enjoyable cameos in the movie. Some of the absolute best cameos and small parts ever in a movie can be found in This Is the End. Channing Tatum would probably have to win the award for the best. I'm not a personal fan of his but even I'll admit he had an awesome part in this movie. A close second place would have to be Emma Watson. I refused to watch the Harry Potter movies so I only know Emma from the Perks of Being a Wallflower. She does an hilarious job in this movie. It's not so much a cameo as a small part. Technically I suppose she's the female lead. She certainly steals the show for me when she's onscreen. The Backstreet Boys also have a great cameo. Once again, not a fan but I really enjoyed them as well.
This one may only ever be appreciated by fans of the click but if you like the other films I mentioned from these guys, you'll enjoy this one too.
