What is your favorite Stephen King horror movie? I'm excluding movies like Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption or The Green Mile, since they're really distinct from the genre (though Shawshank is my absolute favorite King film). Outside of that, there shouldn't be any boundaries on your preferences.
It doesn't matter how many liberties the filmmakers took, unless it matters to you. Theatrical, straight-to-DVD, made-for-TV - doesn't matter. This is about your favorite, or favorites. "Other" is the most important category, absorbing the plethora of films that didn't fit into the limited tabs - Firestarter, Christine, Thinner, Riding the Bullet, The Lawnmower Man, Needful Things, The Langoliers, Silver Bullet, 1408 and on and on.

Actually the 3 you mentioned are my favorites . I picked Pet Semetary. That is one of my favorite horror movies. I guess it is kind of predictable, but I really enjoy it.

I love all those listed but for me it's Christine. Buddy Repperton is the yokozuna of all school bullies.

Well, my favourite King adaptation is Stand by Me, but that wasn't particularly horrorish.
As a kid I was fascinated by It, Tommyknockers, and The Stand, mainly because I was legitimately scared by all 3. I also remember watching all 240 minutes of Storm of the Century when it aired in 2000 and absolutely loving it. Of course, these were made for TV movies/mini series.
So, my 3 personal favourites are Creepshow, The Shining, and Misery. It's hard to depict a favourite but I'll vote for The Shining since it's got the Jack Nicholson connection.

My favorite King horror movie is a toss up between Pet Sematary, Creepshow and Misery, mainly due to the accuracy of bringing King's vision to life.
As far as his books, the Shining was by far the scariest. I took it from my dad when I was in sixth grade and it scared the crap out of me: when Danny goes into 217 and the woman in the tub gets up and comes after him and he's stuck at the door...that's bad enough, but then the horror when he realizes that his protection won't withstand her and he's really trapped? One of the worst moments ever written. That book scared me so much I stopped when her hands settled on his neck and hid it at the bottom of closet for 3 months before I could continue reading it.
When I saw the movie a few years later, I was disgusted. The actors were well cast, especiallly Nicholson, but the extra crap in the movie (elevator full of blood, twins on the trikes) just ruined it for me.

Jack Nicholson's performance in The Shining is too much for me. It's one of the few performances I cannot watch. He is frighteningly similar to the way my father was when he used to get drunk and come at us. I get too uncomfortable watching him. I still give him huge brownie points as an actor, though, for hitting so close to home.

I also really like It and The Stand.

Shawshank and Stand By Me would be my favorites of them all, but they aren't horror flicks. Corey Feldman used to be a great actor, River Pheonix was the man in Stand by Me too.

Thinner was the biggest let down for me from book to movie.

Thinner was the biggest let down for me from book to movie. Nah...you're forgetting this one: This movie was straight up crap. Short story was a cool idea that should have been left to the reader's imagination.

For me it is The Dead Zone. Great acting turn from Christopher Walken. A really good story. Watched this countless times. 2nd would be Carrie and some amazing set pieces. 3rd The Shining. Jack Nicolson I think is excellent as he slowly looses his marbles. Have to admit I haven't seen Stand by Me yet.

I know! . There bound to be others........Almost forgot about Salem's Lot. Not often you get a film for tv that is really scary. I remember seeing this when I was about 14. Next day going into school and everyone was talking about. That scene of the Glick boy floating through the window. Chilling stuff!!
