The director, Guillermo del Toro, wants to make a trilogy and worked very hard with the author of the comics in coming up with a good script for the second one. He's clearly got a passion for this, and has both the cast and studios' full backing. I love the first movie and am really looking forward to this one.
It's still funny to me that Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth came from the same director, even though I loved them both.

Guillermo del Toro is such a down to earth person & easy to talk to.if he's at frightfest this month(he always turns up even when he has no movie showing) i will try to get some news from him.

I read originally the studio wanted The Rock to play Hellboy or someone else more marketable at the time. Guillermo stood his ground, glad he did I don't think it would have been the same without Perlman.

Perlman's voice is absolutely perfect for Hellboy. Gool on del Toro! Also, here's a link where he talked about his Hellboy Vs. Universal Monsters project: movies.ign.com/articles/739/739203p1.htmlEssentially, the Hellboy license is with Universal Pictures, the same company responsible for Dracula, Wolfman, Gillman and Frankenstein. In the comics and movies, the organization Hellboy works for crosses paths withe very kind of supernatural creature, so naturally if there was a Wolfman, the two would cross paths. What really caught my eye was the line, "del Toro also adds that he's not talking about designing new versions of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man, and the rest of Universal's stable of characters, ala Van Helsing, but rather recreating the classic Karloff/Lugosi/Chaney Jr./etc. classics of yesteryear." If anyone watched Bravo's Top 100 Horror Movies, they know he's a classic horror junky.

I don't know if it was the Rock but I do know that the studio originally wanted someone with more star power. Perlman is great though. I still can't believe he learned to use his left hand as his primary hand so they didn't have to change the right hand of doom to the left. I was also reading on IMDB: "When del Toro met with producers, many changes to the Hellboy character were suggested. One idea was to have Hellboy be a human who transforms into Hellboy when he gets angry. Another suggestion was that he came from hell but was a normal human. del Toro vetoed all such attempts to alter the character."God damn, studio execs are sooo stupid.

I saw or read an interview once and they named a few people they wanted to play the role. One of them was The Rock, who was hot at the time.

I think the Rock would be great in a comic book movie.

Why can I visualize you doing this when I don't know what you look like?

Why can I visualize you doing this when I don't know what you look like? Is that a veiled hint at seeing the goods ?
