An amazing visual experience, with an overwhelming performance by Malcolm McDowell. Well worth buying the blu-ray edition just to watch the docummentaries and, above all, listen to the commentary track featuring ol'Malcolm himself. More than a movie, a piece of cinematic history, and the best thing is it never seems to grow old on you. Kubrick was a genius, and here we saw some of the best of him on what, let's not forget, was an (extremely) low-budget movie.

One of my favorite movies. I love pretty much all of Kubrik films. MCDowell is so great in the movie, his career is so odd. He will star in great films then in terrible ones. It's too bad he didn't get better parts and/or chose his films better.
The book is fantastic too if you want to read it. I listened to the audio book, which I heard was better for non British people, since there is so much slang in it. I have to admit I prefer the American version better, which omits the final chapter. The movie doesn't deal with the final chapter either.

A very controversial book by Anthony Burgess, which saw him take a lot of flack for allegedly promoting violence - as did the movie. The convoluted history behind the movie - pulled, on Kubrick's request, and after death threats on the director and his family, from british cinemas - only adds to its timeless appeal. If you haven't had the chance to check out the blu-ray edition, please do so, 'cause the documentaries and commentary are simply an immeasurable treasure. Next to Ridley Scott, i'd put Kubrick up there in the pantheon of unique directors - realistically speaking, Kubrick's body of work is unparalleled, but in my case Scott nips him at the "finish" only because of Blade Runner (my fav flick), Alien, and the sadly overlooked The Duellists, a masterpiece of cinematographic beauty.

It's too bad he didn't get better parts and/or chose his films better. I remember seeing an interview with Vincent Price where he said never turn down a role, I think that's good work ethic especially in such an ego driven industry. One of the most startling scenes for me has always been the brutal rape scene done to the tune of singing in the rain, completely disturbing and pure genius.

I watched it a while back and the movie is great. He's not a good person ,but at the end I was rooting for him. The ending was great.

By the age of fourteen (1990), I'd watched this movie about a dozen times. It was my fourth favorite movie back then after the Star Wars Trilogy (R.I.P. George Lucas).
This movie made me start recognizing 'Ludvwig Van', who along with Gene Kelley's rendition of "Singing in the Rain" will always be reserved as Alex's in my book.

Listen to the above advice about the commentary track. I just did. Next to The Wicker Man's commentary with Christopher Lee, this is only my second favorite commentary delving into a movie I love by a world-class actor. So freakin' insightful. A must-watch for students of the crafts of acting and film making.
