If it was just an action vampire hunter movie set in the 1800's I would probably want to see it. I was really excited about this movie when I first heard about it because the book is so good but after seeing the trailers it looks like they butchered it. A ridiculous parody of a great story. No way am I going to spend money to support that.

I am ready for this movie. The trailer I saw a few months ago looked fine, but we'll see. The book was great.

Wulf was right. A great book turned into an average to good movie which I didn't hate. I knew what I wanted from the movie. On that it didn't deliver. The fight scenes were way too over the top. Mary Todd isn't the worst bitch that Abraham could have married, completely deviating from both history and the novel (the screenplay was written by the author, how could he have failed?). The real Mary Todd was a freak and one of the reasons I pity Abe Lincoln's very hard life, yet respect the man.
SpoilerSpoilerSpoiler To The Book, Abe isn't turned into a vampire after the events at Ford's Theater and so is not included at the end during the present day inauguration of a new President. The train to Gettysburg scene was just too unbelievable even for a movie. The horrors of slavery and vampirism is largely defanged. The Civil War is glossed over. Abe's childhood years are almost completely ignored, but somehow his purely fictional childhood best friend, a free-born black child, manages to fight alongside The Prez all the way till the end, and live.
A few compliments. Abe looked perfect as the President. The make-up was spot on. The CGI wasn't terrible.
Biggest complaint? The Union is losing to the vampire fortified CSA army after the first day of the Civil War. Abe and company race by train to the battlefield with silver armaments for the troops during the long night. The silver is delivered and the Union turns the tide of the war at Gettysburg. So why didn't the CSA vampires just wipe out the Union forces during the night, and why did they fight only during the daytime? Huh???
I also hated the "horse bedlam" scene. Too over the top for even modern "wire" Kung-Fu fight scenes. Too freaking much.
Not worth watching on the big screen, so go seek out The Cabin in the Woods, and support GOOD horror.
But now, a Cheers! to the greatest President we did have, Abraham Lincoln, Rebel Crusher, and I ain't just whistlin' Dixie.

I enjoyed it. Pretty much agree with Neal and Annabelle's review. The Mr. Speed character had me guessing the whole movie. I felt early on that he would turn on Lincoln because of his views on slavery and he did not. Then I think he turns on him toward the end of the film and it's a swerve! My only gripe with the movie is when Mary and Will had aged their makeup did not reflect the years that had gone by and they looked pretty much the same.
