Anyone seen this yet? No spoilers plz but it's getting alot of talk as the most disturbing movie ever made. Not really a horror flick more of a exploitation flick. here is the plot.
Milos is a former porn star who is down on his luck financially. When he receives a call from his long-time movie actress partner, Layla, he welcomes her call. Apparently she's heard that a new film director wants to hire Milos to star in his "artistically-designed" porn film for a very generous price. He is easily lured form his semi-retirement by the lucrative offer, agreeing to meet the director in an isolated mansion.
As the filming progresses, Milo begins to suspect that the director's intentions may be darker than mere pornography. As the film begins to devolve into a horrifically violent production, Milos finds escape may not be an option.

i can handle alot of stuff like all the nideo nastie stuff, but this is more in the way of disturbing events. not alot of gore or anything just a final event in the film that if you have a family or a wife or kids it will haunt you forever. I am glad I seen it but fuck it wasnt something I will ever watch again.

yeah I've found myself watching a bunch of stuff lately. I got my action fix in by knockin' out Rambo 3 & 4. I saw Eastwood's 'hereafter' starring Matt Damon...dude! spoiler alert but that opening tsunami sequence is BADASS!....pretty good movie too. I checked out 'the boxer' with DD Lewis and it was okay...little too much love story in it for my tastes but I will say that as an american I've never really quite understood exactly what's going on over there in Ireland with the IRA and all that, so I appreciate Jim SHeridan for helping me to understand a bit more about the whole political situation.
Over the course of several weeks I have made it through all 1-6 of the texas chainsaw massacre series...man was part 2 one shitty movie. Part 1 is an absolute classic though, and I actually enjoyed the one with Matthew McConahey and the chick from Jerry McGuire. I hear she shuns that she was ever in it and refuses to talk about her participation or that movie in general when brought up in interviews lol...she's ashamed haha...it wasn't that bad of a movie and I kinda enjoyed it. She must think she's all hot shit-high maintenance after making the mega-blockbuster Jerry McGuire or something. For the record, 'jerry mcguire' is one movie that I've really come to viciously hate over time.
Tonight I'm probably gonna kick back and watch the classic 'raising arizona' which I haven't seen in forever, followed by either 'halloween 4' or maybe that movie 'the grudge' cause I still haven't seen that yet but I heard it's not bad.

Okay, I saw this over the weekend...there are still images in my head from scenes in this movie that won't go away... I wonder if they'll ever go away? This movie was by far the best, most horrible, most mind-fucked movie I've ever seen. The movie is brilliant, yet totally awful. I swear it feels like the director took some of the remaining innocence that I had, and left me feeling really uncomfortable and weird ever since watching this piece of cinema....and for that I say "bravo good sir".
Although, I must add that I am wondering just how much props I should give the director and this movie for shocking me to my core? I mean, some would say that this director and this movie deserve no credit just because anyone could put shocking, immoral, and taboo subjects on film and leave the viewer feeling fucked up in the head. I think that I still lean towards giving major cudos just because I thought it was so brilliantly made, and I think many would've fucked this movie up and made it a piece of shit. This movie is not.
For instance, I thought 'hostel' was really predictable and had a somewhat corny element to it. 'A serbian film' might be a tad predictable as far as the whole, overall plot goes, but you still have no idea how this movie is going to go down from scene to scene, and the movie is far from corny. In fact, for what this movie is, dare I say that this movie is a masterpiece? See, I'm still not sure because the movie, even days later, still hasn't fully settled in for me. I still haven't fully digested the overall experience from this film. But to me, that goes towards giving the movie great credit. Think about it, out of the hundreds of thousands of movies ever made, how many films can you honestly say gave you an 'unforgettable experience'? -not many on my list.
You know what's different?? -as an adult, it's much harder to get really scared by a movie then you were as a kid, but...it can be much easier to get really disturbed by complex movies dealing with adult issues and depravities. That "disturbed" feeling that I got from 'a serbian film' was equal to, if not surpassing the "really scared and horrified" feeling that I'd get as a kid from a really good horror movie. As disgusting and revolting as the movie was, in a wierd kind of a way it almost deserves a gold medal for engrossing me(the viewer) with a kind of ill feeling in the pit of my gut that's gonna take some time to get rid of.
I thought the movie was a sick masterpiece of cinema. I thought the lead actor was superb in his role...I mean, to be able to pull off that kind of performance dealing with the content in 'a serbian film' was really incredible. I was even more impressed with how the movie was shot and directed. This movie and 'enter the void' are two that I've seen recently that really impressed me. Think about it, anybody with a lesser passion and desire then this director had would've turned 'serbian film' into a heaping steaming pile of shit. This director took some of the grossest material that I've ever witnessed on film and pulled off a really great piece of cinema. While some of the scenes and content are just totally revolting, the movie really does have a good theme and storyline. If it didn't, lightweights like myself would've hit STOP on the dvd remote halfway into the movie where I woulda deemed it too disgusting to continue on watching for such a dumb story.
Another thing I liked about the movie, towards the end you're almost pleading that the movie will end after the last gross scene that you just witnessed...but then the movie beats you down another 2 or 3 times more with yet another graphic scene as no, this movie and the story of these poor souls ain't quite over just yet.
I found it surprising when I went on RT and noticed that the critics only have it currently rated at 30%. I personally ranked it an 80%, and trust me I don't rank many movies as high as 80% to 100%. I think the critics were too disgusted with the movie so immediately shit on it. I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to over-the-top movies like this. Until this movie, I had 'cannibal holocaust' as the most disturbing movie ever. I had to physically turn away more than once in both of these movies, but at the same time while many parts in both movies were too gross for me to watch, I was still able to realize that both movies were still really well made films. I think many critics see too much graphic brutality so they shit on the film like a republican would to a Michael Moore documentary.
On that note, I can say that I've only ever seen 'cannibal holocaust' once, and I can agree about never wanting to watch 'a serbian film' a second time. Well, maybe...see, I haven't really made up my mind just cause this movie is so brilliantly fucked up that maybe sometime years down the road it might be worth it to endure a truly great mind-fuck movie one more time.
Get this director on the show!
