SPOILERS, SPOILERS, SPOILERS ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM, IF YOU HAVN'T SEEN THE MOVIE, THIS TIME DON'T CHEAT, STOP READING AND WATCH THE MOVIE
I loved that movie. Saw the American remake on the silver screen. Very intelligent movie. I especially loved the main character continuously breaking the "fourth wall" and talking to and even taunting the audience. Many people hated or did not understand the remote control scene. I consider it the ultimate middle finger to the audience, and thus I considered it as a part of my "fourth wall" argument to be absolutely genius.
I own, but havn't watched more than five minutes of the original Austrian version. The reason was the actors and actresses in the American version were absolutely perfect. I am bad at following Hollywood, so the youngsters in tennis whites real names are unknown to me. The leader is ridiculously "pretty" in the face, so he is creepier in his role, compared to the non-descript Euro actor in the same role. And how can you beat Naomi Watts or Mr. Pink in their roles? I think the American version is better, and I usually prefer the original and subtitled foreign original. This week I'll sit through the Austrian version, and briefly review it here.
The second I saw the "pretty" boys in white, and saw that they were wearing pristine white gloves, I knew they were big-time murderous trouble. Fear people wearing gloves folks!
So Ludite, re-watch the movie if you must, but what questions do you have?

this movie rules. Saw it a few years back and haven't seen it since. I'd love to own a copy it was so good. I've heard the original is even better but I definitely agree that dude in the lead role owned it.

SPOILER
Nope, no seeds planted. Just absolutely random, out of left field, original, and the ultimate middle finger to the audience rooting for the good guys (the family) ever in a movie.
He bet us, the audience, that the family would be dead at nine o'clock or whatever time in the morning. He asked us (the audience) to wager against him knowing that the audience would not get the end they wanted. Even when he loses control, its as simple as hitting a button to get back to where the killers needed to be in their story. The family never had a chance, and the audience who bet against the killers lost, big time, as soon as they thought somebody would survive, rewind..... It was the pretty boy's movie, and he laughed in our faces the whole way through. The remote control was his way at saying "fuck you" to anybody who thought the wheels of their planned mayhem had come off. They hadn't, smooth sailing continued to the bitter end (beer reference-cough).....
SPOILER ENDS
I absofuckinglylutely loved it.

SPOILER
One seed was planted. The knife in the boat at the beginning of the movie appears at the end of the movie. But it's the pretty boy's movie. The knife was for viewers like me who always watch where the knife is left in horror films that will be used later. I wasn't necessarily rooting for the family, but I knew that knife would be held by one of the victims in defense again. If for only a fleeting moment in time.

Not a fan. It's well acted and all, but it's just not for me. Once they break reality and do the time turn back time stuff it totally took me out of it and never recovered.
