Hey everyone,
I’m new to the board (this is my first post) so sorry If I’ve brought up something discussed before but I just wanted to know your guys opinions on things in horror movies.
I recently watched the indy horror film “The Murder Game” (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0877355/) and two things really stood out to me.
The first thing that really stood out was the age of many of the actors playing teenagers. I know it’s no secret that most of the time the actors playing teenagers aren’t really teenagers but it seems to me that the best horror movies either a) use teenagers (ala first “Sleepaway Camp”) or use actors that still look relatively young (ala “Nightmare on Elm Street”). Watching this film thought it was very obvious that many of the characters were not teenagers and couldn’t pass for them. One of the characters was even balding on top! I guess my question is does this bother you when watching a horror film? To me it totally takes me out of the moment of the story.
Secondly there was little to no typical horror lighting in the movie. Just wondering how you guys feel when watching a horror movie that doesn’t really have much lighting to it? I’m not trying to say that everyone must follow typical film conventions (hell I think the dogme 95 approach to filmmaking is an interesting school of film) but I think that when you don’t have the proper lighting in a horror film it (like the age issue above) can really take away from watching the film.
Anyway overall I didn’t really enjoy this film (wondering if anyone else saw it) the dialog was pretty bland and the outcome was very predictable.
Well That’s all for now, look forward to posting and replying to posts more in the future.
