Mine has always been the original Dawn of the Dead. It has it all. Great story, social commentary, and of course great effects by Savini.

I love the original Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later, but the original Night of the Living Dead is my favorite. The absence of color and the sparing soundtrack, along with the racial tension beneath the plot made it so engrossing to me. The monsters were so numerous that they could overwhelm you, but you actually had a chance against a few - there was always a tense hope to the dynamic, and boarding yourself up in your house did make the most of sense in terms of reacting to a zombie plague. I'm glad Romero is going back to his independent roots for Diary of the Dead.
"They're coming to get you, Barbara..."

I'm in the minority, I enjoyed Land quite a bit. I did too...my fave would be Night, but 28 Days Later was really cool too. And don't forget Shaun of the Dead--loved it!!

Shaun of the Dead has grown on me every time I've seen it. The first time I saw it I didn't laugh once and just thought it was okay. By the 4th time I saw it I thought it was brilliance. Not sure how that worked.
I also enjoyed Land of the Dead to a degree. What they did with the zombies was very interesting, and Dennis Hopper was great as the figurehead of the elites. "Zombies, man. They creep me out." Unfortunately the protagonists were worthless and the tank thing really fell through.
I have very high hopes for Diary of the Dead.
