Daniel Day Lewis was the f'n man in this movie. Some people said he "channeled" Gangs of New York's Bob the Butcher. I felt he played a completely different character. I think I still liked No Country For Old Men and Sweeney Todd better, but definitely one of the best of last year.

I think this is my pick for best film of last year. I'm not sure if I've seen a better performance by an actor anywhere. The scene where Lewis' character is getting "saved" - HOLY SHIT was that awesome...
Another thing about Lewis is that he seems to be one of the few actors you can "age" throughout the film... By that I mean when he was supposed to be in his 20s or 30s, he looked like he was in his 20s or 30s. And when he was supposed to be in his 60s or whatever, he believably looked that old as well. Those kinda things can take me out of a movie sometimes (the evangelist, for instance - he never looked like he aged all that much).
Also, quite possibly the best line to end on of any film...
*shouted sing-songy* "I'M FINISHED!"
Yes, sir... you are.

Daniel Day Lewis is what i would call an "actors actor". I still can't understand how it's possible he didn't win the Oscar for his role on Gangs of New York - political BS, for sure... Luckily, justice has finally been served...

It is an awesome film. I still like his performance in Gangs of New York better, but still great stuff.

I only saw Gangs once when it originally came out. Since then i consider myself more of a somewhat knowledgeable critic of movies, directors, etc...Even got a rotten tomatoes account and whatnot. Still not quite at the level to be able to tell good or bad CGI. I guess I'm one of the suckers that Hollywood counts on when they put that stuff in movies, but damn it, I look forward to the day when I can hate it like you guys do! That'll be my next step towards becoming a total movie buff badass. But yeah, now that I'm a little older I was able to watch Blood and tell how great DDL was in that film, so I need to watch Gangs again and probably appreciate it much more and compare both performances.

Three people told me not to watch it. "It's a long movie". "There's not enough action and too much dialogue".
So I knew I'd love it and I saw it on the big screen. Loved it. Need to buy the dvd.
I missed Sweeney and have watched No Country about half a dozen times. Part of it occurs in El Paso, that's where I'm from. The Coen brothers caught the I-10 corridor in West Texas perfectly. I know that country.... Beautiful, huge, and desolate.
