Here's the production journal I'm keeping on the status of my film project for the competition:
September 10th, 2008: Pre Production
I feel like I'm working harder than I ever had to pull of this project. Right now, competition or not, I want this to all come together. I know this is a just a small little production with a script that is done for fun and not a serious piece of art but it has really got me excited.
Monday Night I sat down and laid out the script in a word storyboard type of fashion. Once I was sure I had everything I wanted I then wrote up all the information about the film I wanted to be presented to the public and created a place to get the information out ( www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=25578470749 ).
Casting, or better yet getting people involved, has always been a hard thing for me to do anytime I'm working on any projects. I decided to step out there an post online ads looking for people. I would of never expected to garner the response from the ads that I did.
Within 24 hours of posting the ad I had already been contacted by a girl interested in being in the film. After we spoke I cast her in one of the lead roles and was just happy to have some progress. Today alone I got two responses to the ad. I have secured one actor for a male role (to be decided at a later time) and have been in talks with another girl to play one of the remaining female roles in the film. These three people are strangers to me and after going into detail about the production and what they can expect they still seem interested. That really gets me excited for the project.
But I have allot of work ahead of me. There are still anywhere from 7-8 roles that I need to fill (3-4 are female roles, 4-5 are male roles). Thats not to mention that I would like to have at least 10 extras for the shoot.
Those aren't the biggest of my worries. Locations are kind of making nervous. I have once small scene for a cafe and the majority of the film takes place in a house. Finding both locations will be tricky but I'm hoping something will pull through. I know within the next few days I really gotta get out there to make things happen.
Today I worked on a budget for the project as well and placed it to be between 100$-150$. I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible.
For the most part there is lots of excitement coming out of this and I can't wait till October 11th (shooting date) and seeing a final product. I can't give up on this, I just know I want it really bad.
