I enjoyed how they took some historical facts and twisted them to fit with the story, like his mother dying of milk sickness was actually Vampire related.

I liked the "real" reason he travelled down the Mississippi River. The plantation scene will be a great scene in a movie. It could be very chilling.
I hope a movie is not Bruce Campbell funny, but not 30 Days of Night serious. If it feels a little like The Fearless Vampire Hunters mixed with Shadow of the Vampire, that would be good in my book.

I agree, I don't think this should have any camp in it. Humor is ok but not as a primary story element here.
