I really enjoyed it up until the end.
******SPOILERS*********
When he killed the guy it was against the character of Dexter. It was just a cold blooded murder. It was against the code, he was just a prick, not deserviing to be slaughtered. Also such a heated murder out of nowhere doesn't fit Dexter. In something else it would have been fine but not this particular series.

I was really looking forward to the season premiere, but I gotta say, I found it really uncomfortable and awkward to sit thru. I don't really know how to explain it, but just how a soul-less Dexter dealed with the whole situation, having to tell the kids, g-parents, etc. How he was no help with the funeral stuff, how he barely showed up for the funeral itself...I found myself liking Dexter less and less. Then his sister bones the other cop in the house where Rita died just days earlier, and they screw right after cleaning up the blood no less...I mean, what kind of sick fucks would get all horny and do it in that situation? I understand that Rita was such a big part of the show, and I should've expected the 1st show to be like that, but I'm just glad it's over so we can move on.
I can give Dex a pass on that cold blooded murder, just cause he "had a bad week". It's not to far out of his character to me, just cause he is a serial killer. Usually he just targets bad people, but it's not out of the realm of possibility to just kill someone for the fuck of it. I think it was wrong of him to do it obviously, but maybe it's a sign of the direction that he is heading in? Maybe he's gonna start using the code less and less, and maybe turning more into a crazed killer? I'm not sure that I can see Dexter returning to the same serial killer he was that followed all the rules and codes. I think he is going to start spiraling more and more out of control. Something tells me that the cop who hates Dexter and starts to investigate him is going to get a sample slice across his cheek and meet his demise before this season is all said and done.

Actually the stuff you didn't like are the parts I did like. That is true to the character. I thought the best scene was him with the Mickey Mouse ears telling the kids the mom was killed. He doesn't know how to act around people, he doesn't have normal emotions. I felt the end was totally against the character. I felt season 2 reall veered off from what the character is.

yeah, I understand what you mean about being true to the character. I'm catching up on True Blood, and it really irks me at some of the shit they do, I mean by not following the vampire rules and codes. So, Dexter isn't supposed to have emotions, and I know what you mean about the series leading him more in that direction. Truth be told, I think the parts that I felt uncomfortable watching is a true testament to how great of an actor that plays Dexter. So many times it irritates me how he is such a social outcast, never knowing what to say, or how to comfort his loved ones, but then when he gets into 'kill' mode, he transforms into this total rage of psycho...and I think, damn, this dude ain't playing around! I just hate that part of his character that never knows how to handle the small but meaningful things in life.
Anyway, glad to get that episode over and done with, and looking forward to seeing how this Kyle Butler thing plays out. What is this, the 5th season right? -so, there probably won't be too many more seasons before they wrap this series up. I imagine that it has to end with Dexter getting caught and his sister finding out what a true monster that he is and he gets the electric chair. That's how I see it all going down, but ofcourse they won't catch him this season. It's always neat to see the stuff he does to throw people off of his trail.

I thought this last episode was pretty good. Setting the tone for the season. Those decapitated heads with the eyes cut out creep me out man. I thought there was some good tension throughout this episode. Dexter injecting the needle but takes a tranquilizer in the process. Loved the part where the animal pickup guy was scoping out his apartment and the radio cuts on "TAKE IT!!!"

not the greatest season of Dexter. Definitely a step back after the Lithgow season. Hopefully they come back strong next fall.
