I had the pleasure of seeing this again on T.V. last weekend. The 70s were a golden age for this stuff and there could be no better choice than William Shatner for the lead. It's a hairy, eight legged awsomecake with Shatner frosting.

just got a copy of 'Empire of the Ants', which is right up this 70's genre alley. I remember as a kid loving it cause it was so cool with giant ants that attacked people. It was really gory, and as I think back now, I'm surprised that my mom ever let me rent it and watch it.
Kinda like does anybody remember those old kung fu episodes that used to come on Saturday's after cartoons ended, probably about 1 or 2 o'clock in the afternoon? This is back when there were only like 5 channels if you didn't have cable. Anyway, these kung fu episodes were english-dubbed, and they were very violent and bloody. I used to love them. It makes me wonder though again, how my mom would let me watch those shows? -or better yet, how those kung fu episodes were ever allowed to air at all? I think back now, and my mom probably had no idea what I was watching on Sat. afternoons, but I know for damn sure that those same kung fu episodes would never be allowed to air for kids nowadays. Boy how times have changed.
Anyways, back to 'Empire of the Ants'. As I said, I got a copy of this movie and watched it recently. I'm debating about whether I should've just left this movie as it was with all the admiration and fondness that it had from my childhood. I knew going in that this was going to be really cheesy, but damn, the ants in this movie make the most annoying shrieking sounds that I've ever heard! The director decided to give these giant ants this shrieking sound for a scary and disturbing feel. THis fucking noise the ants make is so annoying that I had to specifically turn down the treble just so I could watch this piece of shit movie. I did enjoy the cheesy sci-fi footage of the giant ants, and there's a blond who's shirt gets wet about a third of the way in and her shirt stays wet, so seeing the nips trying to peep thru is enough to combat the horrible shrieking sounds and keep you tuned in throughout the movie.
Joan Collins stars in it, and I hear she has a case of Renee Zellwiger from 'TCM next generation' in which she refuses to acknowledge that she starred in Empire of the Ants. I guess the movie is something that she should be ashamed of, but what I was wondering the whole time is who the fuck is Joan Collins? I mean, I've heard the name, and I guess she used to be some big huge movie star, but I'll be damned if I could name anything off the top of my head that she was in. Probably just a star that was before my time. Decent looking but nothing spectacular, good actress I guess.
If you like these kinds of movies, or liked them for nostalgia reasons like i did, u should check out 'Empire of the Ants'!

Empire of the Ants is another favorite. Oh, and day of the Lupines, just great stuff. Joan Collins is another example of why actors like Vincent Price were without peer. He embraced every role as if it were Shakespeare whether a 3d cinema like House of Wax or just shilling "Sole Survivor" for Milton Bradley.

I'm looking to track down a copy of 'Kingdom of the Spiders' and check it out this weekend. I just gotta see this movie and William Shatner covered with spiders. Looking forwartd to it, and I think it is so neat that I finally got a copy of my Ants movie and it kind of related to this theme. I'll have to check out Lupine after spiders, so thanks for the insight. I'll post back with my 'spiders' review after i see it but I must say I feel glad that I gotta copy of 'ants' being that you like it too. Sometimes it's better to be reassured that stuff is cool!

I know how you feel. I have plenty of friends that don't like these movies. Another great one from the 50s starring James Arness was "Them". Definitely see it if you somehow never did.

I want to watch Night of the Lupus. Never seen the whole movie or the beginning.
I love the TCM franchise. I would almost pull a Renee Zellwigger myself and not admit that I saw "The Next Generation" on the big screen the weekend it premiered. Horrible, horrible movie.

I bought the DVD of Spiders when it came out, great flick. It's so creepy because the spiders are real, not CGI ala Eight Legged Freaks.
